September’s Three
Dagrenning Spring 2025 with the last of her winter coat.
Dagrenning’s Sunset Club
Dagrenning (die er ning) is an Icelandic mare who was shipped from Iceland to Leavenworth, Wa in 2002 at the age of 9. She lived a super good life in one sweet spot for over 20 years. After her owner died, Dagrenning’s American home was sold and her longtime herd was dispersed.
It’s not hard to love this horse but Dagrenning was still lucky to find a loving family. However, when it was time for her family to move on from horse ownership. Dagrenning’s longterm plans were once again a bit fuzzy.
I was lucky enough to be asked – as Adelaide would love to ride – so I decided to be Dagrenning’s retirement plan. There are a lot of challenges to this idea, but that’s the labor of love.
It’s hard. I hate the stress. Driving is not my thing.
But this horse, regardless of her merit or soundness, deserves a lifelong advocate and financial supporter.
My mother, who didn’t make a lot of plans in her life and who died without any cash, made sure that her mule would be taken care of should the breast cancer she didn’t totally treat take her life.. When my mother died,, Dyna had a forever home with caretakers that loved her to the end.
If daughters are doomed to face their mother’s legacy, I am happy to uphold my mother’s of superior hosewomanship,
Welcome to the Sunset Club – Where I learn the caretaking of an old mare as a way of life.
